Thanks for the input and tips David.

Short story: went to marine shop. Owner eyeballed nuts I brought for lug ID reference. He grabbed 3/8" lugs. They seemed too big; should have said something as they were. Back to the marine store I go. Possible silver lining: with any luck, the cute woman, (customer) who is doing an entire re-wired on her boat, may be back for more parts.

The giant crimper I used at the store brought the lug (collar?) material all 'round the wire as it should be.

The lug I show was supplied by another vendor. It didn't feel loose per se, but certainly my "crimping" left a gap (subsequently filled with solder)

I ground the chisel point flat to a ~ 1/16" face then slightly rounded shoulders and corners.
