Hi all.

Jarrett's blog post: http://www.kpcnsk.com/?p=138 and Ed's pages: http://staff.blueridge.edu/~edwardm/vanagon/pp023/index.htm are really great stuff. Thanks!

Issue: mangled failing copper traces where 14 pin connector slides on.

Plan A: re-align traces, cut OEM connector, install it "permanently", check connections, rewire it to another set of connectors.

Plan B: solder wires directly from a new connector to the copper traces.

I have a low wattage iron, can clean the traces, tin wires, have some soldering experience, but tips on soldering wires to the traces would be most welcome.

Also, it occured to me that I could carefully punch a hole in each trace, bend each wire, then insert to help align and secure wires before soldering. If that's a bad idea, please advise. I do have a spare slightly damaged (maybe fixable) ribbon I could practice on.

Neil.
