There is mention on the Samba of harvesting a hightop from a junked van for use on one's van so a search for this might help.  Depends on the top in question and how it was installed, but it basically involved unscrewing the metal strip anchoring it and working around the perimeter of the base with a stiff-bladed scraper to break the sealant/adhesive layer, followed by careful lift to remove. If you are offering to trade your hightop for a poptop you might get plenty of takers.
