Check thesamba.com classifieds. Maybe also check subaru swap forums?

A used engine is a gamble though.

Try to find engine ads with compression test results and videos of engine running. At the very least, add in engine R&R and coolant change costs.

And when "new" used engine still out, good time to swap the coolant pump and thermostat? I've read it's a challenging job. Less challenging when engine out?

Bonus: you'd have a bunch of spare engine parts!
