On my '82 the slots in the wall bracket are meant to hold thick runner o-rings (which in turn the air box nub fits in to). One of mine is missing (I couldn't source a replacement) and the airbox still mounts fine - there's a (small) chance that if you're missing both your hose won't align. I can provide measurements of the o-ring if you want to manufacture something.
