I have been off the list for a couple years, thanks for having me back.

My wife and I have driven our 1989 Westy for 14 years. It has never left us stranded nor did I have many side of the road experiences. We have taken her from east coast to west coast, Canada to Mexico, all the while leaking coolant from the right head. I have milked every ounce from the original motor , it is time for an overhaul. I have saved the money knowing this day would come in order to try to do it right.

I am now in the middle of replacing the engine with a 2500cc GoWesty engine. The engine is out and we are starting to assemble the rebuilt motor.Below is a general punch list I have drawn up.

Stainless steel coolant lines. All new coolant hoses and tubes, thermostat housing..etc..etc..This is when I realize how much I love my air cooled buses.30 some odd hoses ....good grief. New big brake kit for the front and rebuilding the rears and all new flex lines. Completed. All new fuel and vapor lines . Completed. New springs and front end bushings. New clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder . Replace originals propane tank....I have two tanks, one on each side, original drivers side tank is toast. New S.A. Headlight kit and grill. Inspect and replace or repack all wheel bearings. Inspect and replace or repack c.v. joints. New power steering hoses Remove rear heater. New stainless steel exhaust. Check shifter bushings. Reinstall A/C, I removed the compressor years ago. Switching to r134.

Any ideas what else I should be inspecting/replacing while I am in the middle of all of this ?

Here are a few images....
