MT-90 is generally out of favor these days for vanagon transaxles,
and I gather they even changed the formula a while ago.

What I like lately is theGL-5 that German Transoxle pretty much insists
on for their rebuilt transaxles.
Ultra-Guard Fully Synthetic 75W90, a GL-5 with properties that
syncronizers like also.

generally ..I consider GL-5's to be better for the gears,
and GL-4 to help with shifting .
Sometimes I even use some Redline GL-4 as an addtive to help shifting.

The shift/syncronizeraction and feel in the 2WD transaxle I got going
recently, with Ultra-Guard in it..
the first 15shifts , especially into 2nd several times where a
little'draggy' .....then got better immediately ..like in 6 miles of
driving and shifting.
I think it's good stuff. I'llprobably use it only for a whileand see how
that goes.
