I painted a '77 Westy a Jeep color, Lapis Blue (looked almost purple depending on the light) and it didn't hur t the value at all. I did it inside and out, since the original color was that butt ugly "Marigold" (aka school bus or taxi yellow) I thought it looked great (my apologies to those that like "Marigold!)
