If it's a manual transmission waterboxer starter, those should not be run without being inserted into a bell housing, or a piece of a bell housing cut up just for that purpose. gotta have the front bushing. Take to an electrical rebuilder shop. That's all they do. A good one will not be mystified by an *extremely* common type of Bosch starter. There are only about 50 billion of thesebasic types of starters in existence. lol.... one I had repaired recently .....basically good smart helpful not-too-expensive guys .. I put the starter in the van and operate it ..sparks are flying off where it mounts to the bell housing.. took it back, they apologized and fixed it right. They only wanted $ 75 for rebuilding it .. fine price. And it was fine after they got it right. FLAPS .. I would never.... hereis a tactic I use more often lately ..about approaching anyone for any sort of service or repair .. the first words I say are .. "I am looking for someone to go a good job on fixing my XXX." startright there....'looking for good work'. not 'fix my starter' .....but 'somone to do good work' , start there. Imight help ! I see more and more sloppy car work all the timelately. even came up with this ....'you gotta sell them on their own self-empowerment.'
