To be clear my comment that started this was meant as a Joke - I was in now way offended and I was kidding around with CHris because I know he doesn't camp in his Vanagon. Having said that I can't agree more with what you both have said. Each variation of the Vanagon has it's benefits and detriments. However, I love having the versitility of a passenger van. Sure I have "pop top" envy from time to time - and some of those Syncros I see are really really sweet. However, I can still camp in my bus (yes I call them all buses deal with it) and I don't do off road stuff - so this works for me. It serves as a mobile "tree house" for us at my kids sporting events, as a sanctuary for counselors when we work band camp for the school, a drunk wagon when doing DD duties, a camper, a daily driver, a lemonade stand, a lunch break napping station, and more. It has hauled full sheets of drywall, plywood, lumber, furniture, field rocks, all the gear for a 4 peice rock band, lots of kids, wet canoers, dogs, even more furniture, and entire room full of Library shelves, wood, bricks, pavers, appliances, marching band gear, marching band students, more than half a pee-wee football team, a spinette Piano, landscaping supplies, bikes, and more. While I would love a poptop I'm not so sure I'd love a Westy because of space - the carat I had was pushing it because of the rear A/C taking up space for loading things. I really really love my "Lowly GL" too :) CHris I think you've coined a new phrase today!
