Bottom line on towing is this: The further off the main roads you are,
the more it costs to get extracted - whether towed or out of a mudhole!
Triple A and others have limits as to how much they are willing to pay
Service providers. Beyond that the cost is your own.
Years ago, when working on Kodiak Island in Alaska there were some
favorite fishing spots that required going off road. The drive wasn't
bad except for three places on this one off-road trail. Any four wheel
drive could get there, and if weather had been good - some posi-traction
two-wheel drive vehicles could get there - but heaven help if it had
rained any at all - and when the water was up in the creeks was when the
salmon liked to run. So everyone would chance it. And so - the holes
with stuck vehicles became known as the $600 hole, the $900 hole and the
$1200 hole - the $1200 hole being closest to the best fishing creek.
Insurance would cover if a hundred yards off the main road (gravel) but
otherwise covered none of it. So it's all about how much you are willing
to pay.
