That's not the case, there is no guarantee, many kickstarter projects fail and rewards are never received. Kickstarter still gets their cut though. Crowdfunding is interesting and is growing, but just like in any investment model there are scams looking to sucker money out of people. Even if they don't set out to do that at all, they can turn out that way and have.
