slide the rod out alittle more - not too much or the upholstry loops will
slip off and you will make problems worse -   and bend the end of the  rod
90 degrees into a L shape with some vise grips.   then CAREFULLY  feed it
back thru the hole in the upholstry and back indo the  seat.    in theory, the
L shape will prevent it from slipping  thru the hole in the side of the seat
again.....

like mark said it holds the upholstry down into the panels to  give it its
shape.  push it in as far as you can, and dislodge it to  the side, so it
wont slide back out the same  hole




Thanks for the suggestion---but, the rod is so stiff  and I believe I have
pushed it back so many times that the hole in the foam is  wallowed out and
I can't seem to dislodge it to a new place.
