Subject:      Thermostat housing differences, syncro and non

In looking at my project, 1989 2.1 wbx, I have found a VDO temp sensor that fits into the side of the thermostat housing and is retained with a clip.  (per page F-5 in Bentleys, but not for syncro).    My engine came from a syncro and the temp sensor is threaded into the housing instead.

Do the two different sensors work the same?   Can I leave the syncro one in place and carry on?
