This is not a silly question- the steel and alloy wheel rim widths are different and the tire manufacturers specs are The What's What.

185/14 Continental Vanco and Yokohama tires specification charts indicate 5 to 6 inch rim width and the alloy wheels are wider than that, yes?

My information was gleaned from www.tirerack.com and looked up by tire size, then specification for that particular tire.
