The original tires that came with the alloy wheels were 205/70-14XL, Load index 97. The "70" being significant. Yes the 185R14 will work. If you are getting a used set you want to check the production date to make sure they are not too old. Depending on where you live also consider that these are not good winter tires.

I run the stock alloy wheels on my '85. I know the original size tire fro those was a 205R14 - I may have an opportunity to get a set of the 185R14 Hankook fairly cheap. Will the 185's fit on those stock alloy rims?
