Subject: Question about adding lights
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

My vanagon projects are probably running a couple of years behind "schedule," but since I repainted the driver's side recently and took care of some surface rust there, it's time to pick up on some things I have had planned for a long time.

One of these is lights, and some of you have helped me formulate my ideas earlier. By now, I've had time to decide what I want to do.

I want a single switch in the blank hole of the instrument cluster on my 83 westy. I want that switch to close a relay. When the relay closes, I want it to send power to two front Cibié Series 35 fog lamps and a rear Hella backup light to be mounted on the rear bumper via a magnet. The circuit to the backup light will be interrupted by going through the backup light switch on the transmission so that light only comes on when the car is in reverse.

One switch will control all three lights, but the rear light will not come on unless the car is in reverse.

I know I will have to have one relay in the rear to power the backup light. But what about the front? Can that be done with one or two relays?

What would be the recommended circuit from the battery (engine compartment mounted, it's a diesel) to the front and rear?

What amperage relays? Wire sizes?

Bulbs are all 55W H2s.

Thanks,

Jim
