Air flow meter and temp 2 sensor (or wiring), can cause no starts or no = runs under some conditions. Trouble shooting should always follow some = set course:

Does it turn over and have compression? Does it have spark while turning? Does it have fuel? The right amount? A warm engine can flood real easy. = Continued starting attempts can even fill the cylinders sometimes to the = point hydraulically locking the engine.=20

Check the fuel pressure. Check that the pump runs, if not use a meter to = see if you get power to the pump while cranking. If not you then need to = find out why.=20

Check for silly stuff like the air flow meter boot falling off!

Great advice from Dennis and others. I was solo on the road (after transferring the kids to another vehicle albeit late for school -ugh) so no helper to test. I had plenty of battery power to spin her over and did put in 5 gallons gas as my gauge is suspect but it should have had plenty, I was taking no chances. Ignition is working as I blew a half can of ether after swapping a pump to keep it going hoping that used pump would prime and keep it going. Alas, no luck there either. I had it moved via flatbed to the shop and tomorrow will have a helper turn the key while I check for voltage at the pump then move to fuel pressure so I don't shoot gas all over the place. If things seem amiss, I will jump the pump directly to run it full time and see if she runs. If it's not one thing-- It's another. Worst part is, today I was planning to take my old starter down to the starter shop and get the thing checked and solenoid fixed. I have to jump the contacts AND hit that thing with a wrench to get it to go. Try that with a can of ether AND moving the throttle linkage at the SAME time.... I'm laughing now but not a good Vanagon day...

Thanks to all,

TJ
