Yes I am well aware of the Germanic owner non-Vanagon over the top expedition vehicles, as I previously mentioned. I have seen tons of those over the last 10 years or so, more all the time. I was talking about world travelers I have run into in Vanagons, as well as earlier VW vans, and comparing them to USA/CA VW van travelers I have run into. Those giant tire machines are an entirely different class and I often wonder just how useful their extreme capabilities turn out to be on their actual trip.
