Could a tool like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-29200-Hand-Impact-Tool/dp/B0002NYDRG

be used on the offending flywheel bolt? I have found this tool to be quite handy. (i.e. front brake splash guard screws)

I know one doesn't have to pound the crap out of this tool to use it, but I have no idea if (effectively) banging on the end of the crank is a bad idea.

Neil.
