I installed my 2.0l block without a pilot bearing, not knowing the old 1.8
block had one.... stuffed up inside the crank. I guess the Jetta that my
'new' motor came from didn't require a P-bearing...might have been an
automatic...anyway, it took about 2 days to ruin the output shaft seal on
my trans, running it that way but it didn't seem to sound or shift
badly.....till the clutch got all oily and began slipping...
Hadda pull my trans and replace the clutch plate, the oil seal and a new
throwout bearing...
