I would use permatex super 300 or avaition sealant on the outter edge  of
the seal. don't get any on the face of the seal

I'm sure  you might get other opinions, but I like to smear a thin coating
of silicon  sealant (rtv) on the outside of a seal before fitting.   This
would  certainly deal with any slight seat imperfections, as well as lubricate
and  slightly ease the fitment.
