I second replacing the radiator, as a cautionary measure, with one from 'our' vendors. When I first got my van it was having radiator issues. I was quoted a BIG price by a couple of shops for replacement and/or boiling it out. I got one from BD that was quite inexpensive, compared to the quotes, and it's worked perfectly now for 3yrs and about 65k miles.....The cooling system on Vanagons....it needs to function as well as possible to prevent other damage, and the cooling system in Vanagons is somewhat touchy, prone to misbehaving...My old rad was pretty clogged up and not doing the job of exchanging heat well enough to keep the engine happy.
