Thanks. 84, 1.9 and I live on Bowen Island, just outside Vancouver, BC, Canada. This is a big continent though, so unlikely practical, but you are very kind to offer.

I could also probably pick up a rusty parts van for less than $1000 - there are many around here. But then there is spousal disapproval of having a van carcass in the driveway. We need to move further out where I can have a field of them... I saw a pair of used AMC heads for $300 on the local craigslist today.

I'd love to take it apart and replace the gasket myself. Would it make any sense to try and remove just the heads, with engine in the van, and replace only the gaskets? Most of my research on-line shows people removing the engine and doing a pretty thorough rebuild - would love to if I had the time + tools.
