Ben, you should send a photo of your bars side by side and I can try to identify. There are more versions that you might think. In the US we only got the 82 set with end isolators cages for the main center rubber mounts and 83 with flat plates for the main center rubber mounts.

Including from other markets AFAIK there are 4 versions of the left side bar, plus 4 versions of the right side not all matched with the left 4.

81/82 with cages, end isolators, and early forward engine position 83+ R/L with no end isolators 83+ Left with end isolators 83+ Right contoured for PS pump (TIICO) Syncro bars, lowered engine position with tabs for skid plate

I have seen a steel plate mount, aftermarket of some sort. Eurospec?

They used diesel bars and oilpan but fabricated the passenger side aluminum support out of 1/2" plate. Amazing looking and did not appear a backyard mechanic can cobble together. Got me wondering if the parts was some obscure diesel Vanagon part or from an aftermarket source. > > > BenT > > On May 15, 2013, at 10:03 AM, mark drillock <mdrillock@COX.NET> wrote: > >> Since most people want to convert a different year and >> since 83 diesel Vanagon parts are much less common than 82 diesel parts, >> most people will have more issues to overcome to convert their >> waterboxer van. >
