Actually, a friend of mine used to own an '83 diesel Westy, and I still know the guy he sold it to, I'd just never looked at the engine bay on his. Scott, you are absolutely right about the power, lol. I was at a camp out years ago with the first owner and his wife. Since we lived in the same direction, Sunday morning when we all left I told him I'd follow him and his wife and we could stop for lunch on the way home. He said OK, but then added, "Don't feel obligated to stay with us"  I was in Bay window Westy at the time, and I think I got 25-30% better mileage on the way home staying with them, as I don't think we went over 50 mph. On any hill my Bay Westy was like a Corvette compared to his diesel, he would drop way behind me. I don't think I have the patience to own one of those!    now you know what a diesel v anagon is like. when I first heard of one in 1 991 ..having dealt with air-cooled oppossed four cylinder vw en gines forever..I tho ught what kind of oppossed four diese l engine could it be ?   ( which btw,  su baru now has  - - the first ever production car boxer diese l engine  ) .. oh ..it's a Rabbit diesel engi ne ! ..of course. you don't want a stock one to drive very much though ....48 hp stock.  So me  lawnmo wers have more power than that. Qual ity German in So. Cal is one source of bars and mounts. scott www.turbovans .com > On 5/15/2013 11:47 AM, J Stewart wrote: > > Had me wondering, just where DO you get these diesel carrier > > bars-other than a wrecked/junked diesel Vanagon of course.
