Ha, well, you got it right, the AHU! But you think you have problems finding parts now - install a Subaru diesel. First check out just how well (or not?) they are holding up in a lighter car application, being an aluminum block diesel and very little history.

IMO, with the numerous changes needed just to make it 'fit' a Vanagon - and then all the deletions made from the emissions controls plus a hacked computer, it veers from the intended path. The AHU can easily make the same power while having great parts availability and not a lot of changes to fit.
