Jim, and anyone else interested. I have a couple of tires I need to get rid of also, and so I looked up EPA information:

http://www.epa.gov/osw/conserve/materials/tires/live.htm

Whether the tires can legally go to the landfill differs by state, but all states have some sort of disposal program to try to keep them from there. Seems like we could have one regulation nation wide, but what do I know? Some states even use them in "stream bank stabilization."
