Made some progress today and discovered one head had spring loaded pushrod tubes installed. This was the side with the oilier drips. I didn't see this before as I didn't want to try and get the cover plate off the corroded exh. studs.

Anyway, after much scraping and brushing I made the engine case about 10 lbs lighter :) You know, the WBX is in the top 10 engines for one characteristic - the ability to trap and hold dirt and oil. All those nooks and crannies.
