Alfred, we sell the complete system for $425 just so you know (free shipping to US list members!). It comes with all of the pipes, the muffler and the tail pipe and also all of the gaskets you are going to need. If you want a hardware kit to deal with all of the rusted fastners I can do that for an additional $40. The kit does not come with a catalytic converter or an oxygen sensor. If your cat is good you can just reuse it. I would, however recommend replacing the oxygen sensor as well as they will be frozen into the old pipe and not be able to be removed unless it was replaced within the last six months. The part number for the exhaust kit for the 1.9l Vanagon is Exhaust1 in our webstore. If you want to add the hardware kit just put it in the notes of the order. We ship to Canada all the time so that is not an issue.

As far as removing things goes, I use a sawzall to cut away all of the old pipes as they are not going to be saved and this is usually faster than trying to get apart rusted bolts and nuts. Once you get to the four flanges at the head, you are going to want to cut them so you can get a straight shot on the 8 bolts/nuts there. Heating the flange of the head up with a propane torch is usually good enough to break stubborn bolts/studs free. You want to try turn them and if they don't want to turn, heat them up for another 30 seconds and try again. Usually a minute of torch time on each should be enough to get them coming loose. If you are using an acetelene torch (I usually do not) just a second or two of torch time should be enough (overkill if you ask me).

That is the best way I have found to do it and we replace these all the time. If I can be of any further help to you, please let me know.
