Subject: a few power steering rack questions on a 1985 westy
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Well it seems a leak on both sides have developed(at the boot covers) in the steering rack of our 85 Westy..question I have is;if the bellows/or boot covers are filled(they are or have been) with ATF does this mean there is a failed seal/seals inside the rack?

It's interesting after bleeding off the air in the lines the leak is very minimal again and fluid seems to have balanced and backed its way into the ATF tank again at the engine compartment, this while the engine is not running and the ps pump engaged; Is that normal?

I am considering the rebuild at bus depot..how difficult is it too replace the rack in the drive-way?

Many thanks DS
