Subject: No Vanagon Content: ripping DVDS for the road
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

This goes back to a discussion about how to get DVDs ripped to an iPad or other portable device for the road. There is a streaming service called VUDU - it is owned by Walmart if that matters to anyone pro/con - that will allow you to transfer your DVD collection to 'the cloud' as well as convert it for use on iPads etc.  I haven't tried it myself, but it looks like it might be useful for some list members. http://www.vudu.com/in_home_disc_to_digital.html It will cost you $2 per disc converted, but supposedly it will be stored indefinitely and available to up to 5 devices - including iPads etc. for either streaming online (with an internet connection) or downloading for viewing offline. First disc is free. You can convert blu-rays too, if you have a blu-ray drive in your computer - or you can take them all to your local Wallyworld and have them do it for you - for the same fee. The service also allows you to stream rentals (no downloading) to many blu-ray players and connected TVs. They have titles that Netflix does not have available for streaming and the cost varies by quality of the streaming copy. I've used that part of the service and it works great. YMMV. Cheers, Marco
