Agreed, Westy travel is best enjoyed for its own sake rather than rushing to get to a destination. Of course rushing is not even remotely an option with a stock diesel engine 82 Westy. If they had started out with the much improved 83 they might have a better reputation.

For anyone looking to give it a go, here is an ad for one that looks to be in very nice condition. Not mine, never seen it, don't know the seller, etc.
