Mike,

I had to deal with a similiar scenario ( leaky O-rings in collapsible pushrod tube ) I had a new stock tube and Bentley says you can replace the stock pushrod tube by squeezing the ends to insert it in place. I tried this and failed mightily, could never get the tube to compact enough to clear the head. I spent hours on this based on Bentley's gospel. I finally gave up and went to the FLAPS and bought 2 new O-rings for the spring loaded pushrod tube. Problem solved.

Also, David gives excellent advice on the reinstallation of the rocker arms and pushrods.
