I've been using one similar to this, from Radio Shack, although it's only AC. I just plug into a small inverter. It certainly seems more elegant to just hard-wire one into your on-board 12V. Mine is only AC capable and, although it is not as versatile as one with AC/DC, it has the flip out plug prongs, so no wires....and that I like. Whatever one you use, they are great to have!
