The crankshaft seals really do not wear out or go bad unless you have an awful lot of mileage or something is wrong. The usual "wrong" is that the engine is overheating. Sometimes these engine also like to leak either from the crankcase seam, the cam plug, or a small crack near the #3 cylinder. Fun Bus has leaked from the flywheel area since it was new. They even tried to replace the seal once under warranty. That engine just turned 258K today.

Also getting ready to do mine, now that the drip from the engine/trans union is too big to ignore. My question is about the end play shims, though. Which ones should I buy in order to be ready to adjust the end play properly once the engine is out? Engine is a 2.1 Boston Bob rebuild with about 65,000 miles on it. Any way to predict which shims I'll need?
