Somewhere way back in the dim reaches of the past - around 2002 - I read that the clutch master - assuming proper installation and the fluid tank properly filled - will self-bleed if pumped 75 or 80 times. I didn't believe it - but it worked. The caveat was however - that the line below the master be cracked open momentarily BEFORE starting the pumping. I changed the master and never had any trouble at all.
