John, Thank you very much for taking the time to read my Email and for your input too. That's what I thought too but I needed affirmation. When I bought the long block it had that washer on the crankshaft and after attempting to install a new oil seal I could see that it wasn't seating right and now I know why. Thanks again, I don't feel so crazy now but then there's a lot more work to do Paul
