Just out of curiosity have you contacted the "reputable source" about this tranny?

That's the first thing I do with ANY vendor. I just finished installing a part I got from a well-used list vendor, which it turns out, is obviously designed incorrectly to be successfully installed on my '87 Westy.....just does not fit.

Haven't heard back so will wait until I have finished dealing with them about this situation, prior to discussing it specifically here or elsewhere.

I have the same question as David: "how do you know it's a bearing", and which bearing, and how did you find that information out.

I would strongly suggest ALWAYS dealing directly with a vendor about any questions or problems you may have with products or services before doing anything else, and once having done that, I would disclose how that interaction went so that others "here" can benefit.
