Has it been torn down and carefully inspected already ? If it has .. and as near as anyone can figure out , it's a fluke bearing failure , it would be reasonable for the trans shop to 'work with you' some on it. Like give you a really fair deal .. so that both parties share the effortand cost.

that is IF ......there isn't some factor like some extra powerful engine .. or abusive driving, or dragging clutch or whatever.

I have seen, fwiw ...numerous cases of people driving vanagons in a very rough harsh unsmooth manner and they have no idea they are being so rough on the poor thing .......especially shift linkage.

I never give a 'so many days, so many miles' warranty .. because .. all those ever mean is 'we will sort of help you if there is a problem within the warranty period, and one dayafter we say 'too bad.'

I recently talked to a major vendor about a clutch problem after 3 years and only 40K miles ..something like that..on a 14,000 dollar engine conversion. When I asked them what's the deal on a clutch problem in a case like that..say if it had occured in only 13 months since the major engine conversion job ...they sounded almost gleeful , saying 'out of warranty, we charge the full clutch repair rate' ...

and that generally is what you will usually find....one day after the warranty period ..it's 'too bad.'

another reason I never give them is .. a customer can be upset that say ..his engine was going south badly just before the end of the warranty period on another part of the van ..say a trans rebuild .. and being upset , will intentionally try to break the trans within the warranty period.

It sure appears to me there is a crisis about trust going on .. in both directions. I fixed cars for many years in California .. it's not an unfair statement, while granted it's a generalization, always a dangerous thing...... to say there is a lot of mistrust between shops and customers in California. I sure got ripped off and conned bya lot of customers there. Heck ...it does not even pay to be generous and fair with some people, sad as that is.

Just yesterday, a tow and repair shop told me they preferred customers , out of state and out of town ones off the freeway, over local customers.
