Subject: luggage cargo carrier for rear hitch
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Hi folks:

I'm about to order an aluminum cargo carrier for the back of the van. I have one of the burly hitches, so not too concerned about supporting it adequately. I have an inflatable kayak and the paraphernalia that goes with it, and things are getting more than a bit crowded on the interior. My question is which version to buy, there is a 49 inch-wide and then a 60 inch-wide version. Both of them are similar price. For those of you who have installed one of these, do you have any advice as to which is the better choice? I'm kind of afraid I'm going to back and do something with one of the things, and not sure if the narrower one would prevent me from hitting something less easily or not. I'm thinking if I got the 60 inch-wide one, then extending some driveway markers or similar that I could see in the side mirrors may be helpful. Last thing I want to do is back into something, and in a crowded grocery store parking lot I could see doing that. If you have any opinions, for or against these luggage cargo carriers in general, I welcome your comments.

Thx,

Troy
