-----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Dan Barrett Sent: Sunday, June 30, 2013 8:11 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: brake & CV q's

Three possibly dumb questions as I proceed along this summer's maintenance journey of self-discovery:

(1) Can I remove the CVs without removing the rear wheels, i.e., must I tangle with the axle nuts? It is usually easier to loosen the CV joint bolts with the tire-wheel in place. Gives you something to hold to keep the works from turning as you loosen the bolts, yet you are able to locate each bolt for access. Use good tools, clean each hole carefully and make sure the bit is fully seated so you don't strip the heads out.

(2) What is the list wisdom re. disposing of old (used) brake fluid? Mix it with used engine oil.

(3) Anyone have part numbers for the plastic brake line retaining clips that keep the hard lines in place? There are a few different ones. Be specific. Most are still available at the dealer.

Many thanks in advance.

Dan
