Bryan,
I don't recall for sure whether I have seen that type of plug on
injectors, but I have encountered it elsewhere on vanagons. It may depend
on the year of your vehicle, which I don't recall. I have found that the
point of a safety pin is best for prying the end of the wire outward
initially and then a very small flat screwdriver can be used to move the
wire out and to the side.
With respect to the hose, there is info in the archives if you can find
it and more knowledgeable volks can correct me, but I believe that to
replace such a hose you cut and dig the old hose out of there with
considerable difficulty and then if you have a replacement hose of just the
right size, you just force it over the barb and into the collar.
