We have stored the bus with tank dry, then just before a camping trip, fill with fresh water from clean garden hose specifically used for filling the tank. Put in 1/4 of bleach, slosh around, run through the faucet for about 5 minutes, drain and refill. Always good to go. Been drinking that water for years, no incidents. Love having fresh running water on board! Once per year, I usually clean the level measurement points with a baking soda/water paste to keep them reading true.
