What age are the kids? My grandkids (the youngest ones) are six year old
twins. Up until now, I tried to schedule my mechanicing to times they were
not here, but that has not always been possible. When they were around and
I was working on a car, I had to be vigilant because they wanted to help. I
don't need to go into detail on that.
But two weeks ago marked a turning point. When I went to work on my car,
the twins swept the garage floor, pulled out the jack and stands, and since
they can now read brought me every wrench I asked for by size. Everywhere I
worked there was a light shining right where I was looking. They took every
fastener from me and put those away, along with the parts I removed. When
it came time to put things back together, they remembered what fasteners
came from where.
I hope this is the start of something long-lasting! All this is the result
of my previous indulgence of them around my car. They know what all the
tools are, what not to touch, etc. Boy and girl, both equally helpful and
interested.
