I agree. I wish I saw that earlier and convinced my wife to sew up a sleeve. Though routing the wire down the lifting mechanism is not as kludgy as you might suppose. I run the wire down and served it to the metal. Was thinking it might lend an air of old timey sailing, but it didn't. I'm going to dig out my old copy of Ashley's Book of Knots and see if I can find some better methods. I did try the half hitch serving but the twine I was using (hard laid net twine) didn't work out well.
