I enjoyed watching this video on the head gasket repair:

has been at it since May.

There are better videos out there in terms of technique, but I really
enjoyed this one because it was shot by a non-VW expert.  Watching Ben's
video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqgcSZi5RGQ makes it look 'easy' - so
this was good to balance it.

That and my brake overhaul, and other jobs, I should be busy all summer...
