I always change my own oil and filter. Same with my airplanes. After a few bad experiences with shop - I took matters into my own hands. Disposal of oil from the Van isn't much bother these days. But I had a Cessna 195 - and an oil change on that thing meant disposing of 5 gallons of oil at one time. THAT was a problem. Found a guy that had a jerry-rigged oil burner stove - and he was happy to get the oil. In fact, he solicited the stuff.
