The hose can be replaced. The real trick is finding the correct hose. From the factory these injectors use a clamp less type of hose similar to Aeroquip Socketless or Parker Push Lock. This type of hose is wound in such a way that with the proper barbs increased pressure or pulling on the hose actually tightens the connection. As for replacing fuel lines VW lists a different hose for general fuel line use and the lines on the engine. The correct stuff lasts a real long time, not just a few years like most stuff on a roll will sitting on top of the engine.

Thanks again to everyone that helped on Thursday. I had just parked the van in the rare coveted parking spaces along the boardwalk in Cape May, NJ when I found the leak in the FI hose. I still have a question about that plug. Please take a look at http://www.csp-dev.com/vw/fi1.html . The top green plug was the one in question. Everyone told me to press down on the wire to expand the wire around the ears. As you can see by the picture, the wire doesn’t appear it wants to go anywhere in any direction. I ended up just prying the jack off over the ears. What am I missing here? Is this plug broken or is there some other way to neatly get it off?

The second picture down is the old injector. What I am curios about this is why does the hose appear to be attached permantely to the injector? Could I have replaced this hose? I ended up putting in a spare injector I carry with my parts bag.

It was a white knuckle ride back to PA as I wasn’t sure the used injector I put in was OK. For some odd reason I’ve most of my mechanical issues on my 4th of July journeys in the last few years.

And yes, I replaced all of my fuel lines a few years ago and this injector is a rebuild from only a few years ago. It could have easily caused a fire. I’m surprised it did not. I ordered a brand new one to replace it.
