What's the brand of regulator? Recently a guy posted on a Mercedes forum that his less than year old Uro brand (made in China) regulator snapped off a couple spot welds in a suspiciously similar manner. He drilled and added screws to reinstall the broken piece, but you might try rivets on yours. The aftermarket supply chain is getting weaker by the day.
